  • 2016 Essence Fest In New Orleans

    • In July, Maya went to New Orleans as part of one of the best festivals in the country, the Essence Festival! She joined the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Tyra Banks, Reverend Al Sharpton, Misty Copeland, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, MTV's Todrick Hall and others on the Essence Empowerment Experience Stage. Performing songs from her forthcoming LP, Unleash Me, she was proud to lend her voice to the themes of empowerment.

    • On June 29th, Maya joined nearly 3000 world renowned change-makers as both speaker and performer at the 2016 Points of Light's Conference on Volunteering and Service in Detroit. Each year, thousands of people who really care about the future of volunteer service convene in one place - to learn from, share with and get inspired by one another- to work together to increase the number of volunteers in the world and the impact of the work they do.

    • Friday FEB 12th "Dance Revolution" anthem was formally released to fans. Maya's humanitarian anthem, Dance Revolution, in support of VDay's One Billion Rising campaign to end domestic violence, was commissioned by founder Eve Ensler when the campaign started in 2013. The song, though used in a music video (directed by Rae Maxwell) and in promotional videos directly related to the campaign, had never been mastered and released to the public. On Friday, the original version of the song, as well as an 8 minute "Still Rising" Deep House remix, was released to listeners on all digital platforms (iTunes, Amazon, etc) on Maya's Azucena Songs label.

      At the end of December 2015, into the second week of January 2016, Maya was thrilled to perform two weeks of concerts at the brand-spanking-new Blue Note Hawaii club on Waikiki Beach. Yes, that's 24 shows in 12 nights in Honolulu, Hawaii!

      Her band was the very first act to take their stage, and was the exclusive artist for the club's soft opening and New Year's Eve celebration. Following our residency were artists like Kenny G, Roy Hargrove, and superb Hawaiian talent, Jake Shimabukuro. She was received with encores and standing ovations most nights and looks forward to a new yearly tradition playing in Hawaii.
