“The drum roll is epic!! Three different mixes are actually perfect!! The EMD-Dance type crowd will get it … in fact I see commercial radio picking the club mix. But the original mix is the main one. I will be definitely putting this in my live sets and radio sets.” – DJ A-Ski (Stone Groove Radio, KPFK, Los Angeles, CA)
“Maya Azucena does it again! ‘Favorite Song’ is my favorite song because the production is on point and Maya sings with conviction. It grabs you from the beginning and compels the listener to move and be moved. I can guarantee it will be one of the quintessential jams of 2016!” – Mr Chris (Soul Brother Show, KPFT 90.1FM Houston, TX)
Friday FEB 12th “Dance Revolution” anthem was formally released to fans. Maya’s humanitarian anthem, Dance Revolution, in support of VDay’s One Billion Rising campaign to end domestic violence, was commissioned by founder Eve Ensler when the campaign started in 2013. The song, though used in a music video (directed by Rae Maxwell) and in promotional videos directly related to the campaign, had never been mastered and released to the public. On Friday, the original version of the song, as well as an 8 minute “Still Rising” Deep House remix, was released to listeners on all digital platforms (iTunes, Amazon, etc) on Maya’s Azucena Songs label.
At the end of December 2015, into the second week of January 2016, Maya was thrilled to perform two weeks of concerts at the brand-spanking-new Blue Note Hawaii club on Waikiki Beach. Yes, that’s 24 shows in 12 nights in Honolulu, Hawaii!
Her band was the very first act to take their stage, and was the exclusive artist for the club’s soft opening and New Year’s Eve celebration. Following our residency were artists like Kenny G, Roy Hargrove, and superb Hawaiian talent, Jake Shimabukuro. She was received with encores and standing ovations most nights and looks forward to a new yearly tradition playing in Hawaii.
